BEMER

Bio-Electro-Magnetic Energy Regulation

BASIC STATEMENTS

What does BEMER mean?

The word BEMER has been derived from “Bio-Electro-Magnetic Energy Regulation“.

It is the name of a device (which works with a special pulsing electromagnetic field) as well as the application of and/or application by means of this device.

How can the nature of the BEMER application be explained in short?

It is a application to improve the circulation parameters and to support natural self-regulation mechanisms.

Why does the BEMER application work for so many diseases and how can everyone use it for better health and increased performance?

The BEMER application is a basic application, which supports the self-regulation, the performance and the self-healing powers of the organism. Simultaneously, it also provides the foundation for an increased effectiveness of therapies applied in orthodox as well as in complementary medicine. The effects do not target symptoms (individual diseases), but a significant principal cause of the development of disease, premature aging and decreased performance: - impaired circulation.

Explanation: All forms of life, from the unicellular organisms, plants and animals to the human

species have adapted to their environment and have the ability to heal themselves. All life processes

constantly consume energy, which needs to be produced in every single cell. The cell requires nutrients and oxygen to do this (except in anaerobes). In higher life forms, it is the blood flow that regulates the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, the disposal of “waste products”, the exchange of vital information via hormones and messenger substances, the immune response and many more tasks. Blood is the universal means of transport. The performance and functionality of the muscles, joints, organs, glands, the immune system, etc. - they all depend on the sufficient circulation of blood. The blood flow through the lungs determines whether our blood and, with that, our organism is sufficiently provided with vital oxygen. Circulation has a significant influence on the overall performance, on health and the course of the aging process. Even medication, as administered in orthodox therapies, is absorbed by the blood and distributed by the blood throughout the body. For all these reasons, a application such as the BEMER application, which improves the circulation parameters, is the basis for health and performance. It generally has a positive effect in the treatment of diseases of any kind. Without sufficient circulation, healing cannot occur.

What are the main reasons for impaired circulation, disease and premature aging?

The reasons for impaired circulation, low performance, premature aging and disease in humans living

in industrial countries are predominantly found in their lifestyle. At no other time in history people had

such an abundant food supply and such excellent hygienic conditions; never before so much money

has been spent on healthcare systems. Nevertheless, there has been a dramatic increase in diseases,

particularly in chronic diseases. The argument that the life expectancy of people has increased, is a

dummy argument only, because it certainly does not explain why more and more children and youngsters suffer from chronic diseases. In fact, it is rather the conditions of life that are typical for civilised human beings that are often presented as risk factors in medicine, such as lack of exercise, excess weight (malnutrition) and emotional stress, which lead to an impairment of circulation. In addition to that, there is environmental stress, pollution by cigarette smoke and exhaust gases, and many more factors.

Which effects of the BEMER application have been scientifically proven to date?

· Effects on the micro-circulation as significant component of the circulation.

· Effects on the immune system.

· Effects on the protein biosynthesis.

· Effects on the vegetative nervous system.

Scientific studies can be found on the Internet (e.g. www.afb.li ).

Why do we recommend the BEMER application?

· The BEMER application addresses the main cause of disease (lack of circulation/ ischaemia and   lack of energy) and there it achieves results relevant for application.

· The BEMER application supports manifold natural self-regulation mechanisms (broad spectrum efficacy).

· The BEMER application has not shown any side effects or adverse reactions over many years of

application.

· The BEMER application can be used for increase of performance, faster regeneration after physical

and/or mental challenges, for health protection and for the treatment of diseases and/or for faster

wound and bone healing.

· The BEMER application can be combined with any other treatment method. It is also suitable to support orthodox therapies.

· The BEMER application often still shows effects in cases, in which conventional treatments do no

longer provide any results (when ‘all treatment options are exhausted’ as it is said).

· The effects of the BEMER application are scientifically proven.

· The BEMER application and its mechanisms of action can be explained theoretically on the basis of

physiological (orthodox medicine) and physical principles.

· The BEMER application system has been tested and certified as a medical device.

Are there any contra-indications?

Foreign organs as well as allogenic stem cell and bone marrow transplants constitute a relative contraindication. The body has the tendency to reject foreign organs and foreign cells. Therefore, medication is used to suppress the immune system. The BEMER application strengthens the immune system, which is undesirable in such cases. Heart valves and cornea of the eye are not considered as foreign organs, and are therefore not contraindications. Also other contra-indications that usually apply for other magnetic field application devices, for examplemetal implants and pregnancy, do not apply to the BEMER system because of its very low flux density.

May BEMER be used in persons with electronic implants?

As interactions with electronic implants cannot fundamentally be excluded, the boundary values determined by the implant manufacturer are critical. With most electronic implants BEMER can be used

unhesitatingly. In case of doubt consult the medical hotline.

Can there be any side effects?

Side effects are defined as occurring undesired concomitant features, e.g. allergies, bleeding etc.,

induced by the magnetic field. Such side effects have never occurred in millions of applications. They

are not to be expected because of the low flux density of the field.

Does BEMER promote tumour growth?

A tumour is degenerative cell with a metabolism that works different from healthy cells. Animal

testing has shown that BEMER does not promote tumour growth but, actually, slows it down (cf. AFB

report on tumours).

Can a disease get worse despite BEMER application?

Firstly, it must be said that there is no application that would help under any circumstances. Studies have shown that positive effects up to complete freedom of symptoms could be achieved with BEMER in 88 percent of the cases. BEMER supports the self-regulation and the self-healing of the organism. However, it will work really well only if also all other substances that the person needs are available in sufficient amounts (nutrients, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, etc.). If such substances are lacking,

deficiency symptoms can occur (magnesium deficiency can lead to cramps in the calves, calcium deficiency can lead to cramps in the arms or to cardiac arrhythmia, etc.). Naturally, BEMER cannot remove such deficiencies. If the organism is loaded with toxic material (heavy metals, acids etc.), excretion reactions can occur. Therefore, the disposal of such substances should be always supported by

other means; in particular, the person should drink a lot of non-carbonated water.

Due to the improvement of the nervous conduction of impulses it is possible that, in some cases, the

subjective sensation of pain is more pronounced. This is no reason to stop the application, but expression of a positive effect. In such cases, the strength of the application can be reduced by adjustment of the flux density, which increases the duration of treatment, but reduces the pain.

In the case of severe illness, the patient should consult a physician familiar with the BEMER application, or the medical hotline.

Is magnetic field application accepted by orthodox medicine?

On the one hand, there are scientific studies published in the medical press that prove the therapeutic

effectiveness of electromagnetic fields, whereas on the other hand there are also studies that consign

these effects to the realm of placebo effects. The majority of people in the industrial countries and many physicians still approach medical conditions in a symptom-focused manner. Disease is described in terms of symptoms, and for each    symptomatology there is specific medication and/or a specific application. Treatment concepts that work with practically any disease are considered untrustworthy and/or dubious. In addition to that, some manufacturers and distributors of magnetic field devices make scientifically unsustainable claims on the effects of electromagnetic fields and simply adopt research results of other magnetic field devices. On cheap coach trips combined with sales shows, dubious wheeler-dealers sell permanent magnets, which cannot be compared in their effects with a medical electromagnetic field device, at inflated prices. All these reasons contribute to the fact that magnetic field application is still being discussed as a controversial issue. However, not all magnetic fields are equal!

Do health funds pay for the BEMER application?

The health funds are obliged to ensure sufficient, necessary, appropriate and medically sensible

health care. It is up to the health funds to decide which therapies shall be included. The BEMER application is not considered as a standard means of the orthodox medicine yet, and is therefore not paid for. Physicians prescribe the BEMER application to patients paying privately.

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

What does the BEMER application involve?

The BEMER application requires a specific application system (BEMER) consisting of a control device and various coil applicators. Following a given application plan, the application of a coil mat generally improves the circulation and the overall energetic situation (see above). This is the foundation on any application and should be applied two to four times a day, if possible. Additionally, there are special applicators for local penetration (intensive applicator, coil pillow, multifunction applicator) and a “light shower” for the treatment of the skin, which should be applied supplementary to the coil mat, depending on the indication. The application can be performed in the medical or therapeutical practice as well as at home. In order to spare their patients from daily visits to the practice, many therapists rent the system out for the use at home, or the patient buys the system.

Why does the BEMER system include various coils?

The application of the BEMER must be viewed under three aspects:

1. The foundation of any application is always the application of the coil mat with the basic plan

to achieve a general improvement of circulation parameters and all the other effects mentioned

above.

2. Focused stimulation of the vasomotion to achieve further improvement of the circulation

parameters with the coil mat and one of the programmes.

3. Support of the general application and all the effects by local stimulation in specific regions of

the body with defined depths of penetration with one of the four programmes using the intensive

applicator (relatively limited area), the coil pillow (large area) or the MFA (universal).

How is the coil mat used? Within what period can I expect therapeutical results?

The length of the application strongly depends on the age of the patient, the duration of the disease and the overall lifestyle of the respective person. The first noticeable results usually materialise within four to six weeks.

How long does the application success last?

The positive effects of the BEMER application last for a period of three to six months, in some cases even for several years. This depends in general on the lifestyle of the respective person. However, as nobody can completely avoid the health risk factors described above (lack of exercise, emotional stress, environmental stress, etc.), we recommend an ongoing use of the BEMER system, as it is already practised by many people, even athletes. “Prevention is better than cure.” The goal is to maintain all one’s faculties and abilities and good health into old age. How you get old (what quality of life you enjoy) is more important than how old you get.

What do I feel when I apply BEMER?

As human beings have no sensors for low-frequency electromagnetic fields, they cannot feel the magnetic field. Many users sense warmth or a tingling as an expression of the increased circulation.

Sometimes, the subjective sensation of chronic pain can be more pronounced, as the nervous conductionof impulses improves, too. This shall be interpreted as a positive reaction and is no reason to stop the application. In case of doubt consult a medical practitioner familiar with the BEMER application, the AFB homepage or the medical hotline.

How can I sensibly support the BEMER application?

· Drink sufficient amounts of non-carbonated water (two to three litres);

· Eat balanced wholefood nutrition observing the acid-alkaline balance; do not eat raw fruit or

vegetables in the evening; avoid alcohol, nicotine and other drugs and/or reduce them to a minimum;

· Get as much exercise at fresh air as possible without overexerting the organism (watch the pulse

rates to match your age);

· Maintain a healthy intestinal flora;

· Dispose of acids (deacidifying baths, alkaline powder), heavy metals, etc.;

· Take vitamin, mineral and trace element supplements as needed; cramps in the calf are often a

sign of magnesium deficiency, cramps in the arms or cardiac arrhythmia are a sign of calcium deficiency.

If an athlete influences his/her metabolism by the BEMER 3000, is this considered doping?

No, because the metabolism is only being optimised. Circulation impaired by overacidification comes

back to normal faster, and metabolic slags are disposed of within a shorter period of time.

Will an athlete perform better thanks to using the BEMER system?

Yes. The higher performance results from the shorter time needed for regeneration, the decreased risk of injury and an energy efficient warm-up. Thanks to the faster regeneration, the training can be arranged differently to support an increased performance.

Is it possible to measure the effects of the BEMER application system in the body?

By means of measuring instruments, it is possible to provide evidence for improved circulation as an

immediate reaction, and the decrease of blood pressure and heart rate in the medium term. With a bit

more effort, it is possible to prove an increase of the oxygen partial pressure and an isolation of red

blood cells by means of dark-field microscopy. In the long term, the person feels a decrease of the

symptoms of the disease and an increase of energy.

What is dark-field microscopy?

This term stands for a special type of microscopic blood examination, with the light inciding from the

side and allowing an optical display of the blood.

Shall I tell my physician that I am using BEMER, even if he/she does not have a high opinion of magnetic field application?

Yes, you should inform your physician. Physicians who know the BEMER system will always recommend its application, at least as a means to support their application. Physicians who do not know the

BEMER cannot raise an objective opinion. However, they might take this as an opportunity to inform

themselves.

Do I need orthodox medicine at all?

Of course, particularly for acute disorders orthodox medicine is indispensable. However, BEMER can

be used with all diseases as a supporting form of application and for rehabilitation. Further, BEMER can be used to strengthen the organism and to improve its self-regulation. Also healthy people can use BEMER for prevention and for increased performance.

TECHNOLOGICAL-PHYSICAL QUESTIONS

What is magnetic field application?

The magnetic field application is a application based on principles of physics; its effects are triggered by means of a magnetic field. In physics, the term “field” is used to describe the effects of force in space. Magnetic fields generate a force action on magnetic substances and charged particles. Charges can be electrons or ions. Ions are atoms which have released or adopted electrons, and therefore are electrically charged. For example, every salt creates such ions, when it is dissolved in water. Every organism consists, to a large part, of water, and the ions contained therein regulate vital functions. So, we speak, for example, of the electrolyte balance of a person.

What are the differences in magnetic fields?

Generally, we distinguish between static magnetic fields (permanent magnets) and electromagnetic fields.

What is electromagnetism (electromagnetic fields)?

Electromagnetism is based on the electromagnetic interaction. When ions or electrons are moving,

they generate an electric current and a magnetic field, which is perpendicular to the flow direction. In

response, this magnetic field exerts a force action to the electrically charged particles.

Does that mean that there is electric current flowing through my body?

No, as the human body is a very bad electrical conductor. However, there are force actions on

charges that lead to a positive support of the self-regulation capacity of the organism.

How comes that the magnetic file penetrates the human body?

Low-frequency pulsing magnetic fields, as they are used in magnetic field application, expand with the

velocity of light and have wavelengths of several thousand kilometres. Due to this very large wavelength they penetrate all substances, also the human body. However, with increasing space, a magnetic field weakens very fast, which means it decreases in its intensity.

What are the differences in various magnetic field application devices?

For therapeutical purposes, permanent magnets and electromagnetic field devices are applied. The

effects of permanent magnets are relatively small, and these systems are not approved as devices of

medical technology. For devices of medical technology, pulsing magnetic fields (electromagnetic fields) are used. Pulsing magnetic fields differ mainly in three parameters:

· The form of the pulse (expansion and/or change of the field, which can be displayed as a wave),

· The frequency (number of changes per second) and

· The flow density (force action of the field).

With these three parameters, many different magnetic fields can be developed. However, it is these

three parameters that decide on the physiological effect of the respective field – and whether the field

will harm the organism (electro-smog, microwaves, UV radiation, X-rays, etc.) or whether and to what

extent it will benefit the organism. In other words, magnetic fields are not equal; the type of the field

determines the effect. Unfortunately, this fact is often not considered in the evaluation of scientific studies on magnetic field application, which then leads to contradictory opinions and contributes to the sceptical attitude that many physicians have with regards to a application with magnetic fields (see above).

From the magnetic field application to the BEMER application

The BEMER application is currently the most advanced form of the therapeutic application of electromagnetic fields, with scientifically proven effects and based on a theory that is acceptable for orthodox

medicine. The special pulse generated by the BEMER 3000 is protected by patents and excels in comparison to all other types of therapeutically used pulses by a uniquely broad spectrum of frequencies.

What is the special benefit of BEMER?

The uniqueness of BEMER is based on its pulse that is protected by patents. Magnetic field devices

as they have been used to date, work with sinus, rectangle or saw tooth shaped pulses. Due to their

structure, these pulses always feature only the basic frequency of the pulse, and they have a relatively

small number of partial frequencies (generated by overlapping of sinus waves), which result from the

respective form of the pulse. Often it is required to set a certain pulse frequency, depending on the

type of the discomfort. The BEMER pulse is structured in such a way that it covers a broad spectrum

of frequencies, all based on a pulse frequency of 33 Hertz. Therefore, the operator only changes the

flow density (intensity) in accordance to the user’s metabolism. So, in order to recognise the differences in magnetic field devices, it is important to look at the form of the pulse.

What flow densities (intensities) does the BEMER achieve?

The BEMER system includes several coils. The coil mat reaches an average flow density of not more

than 35 microtesla (μT), all other coils reach up to 100 microtesla (μT).

What is the coil supposed to do?

The strength of a magnetic field is determined by two factors, by the strength of the flowing current,

and by the number of coil-windings. This means that, with steady amperage, the flow density of the

magnetic field depends on the number of coil-windings. BEMER uses two different types of coils, the

weaker coil mat and the stronger coils of the intensive applicator, the coil pillow and MFA. The current

strength is controlled via the 10 speeds and/or the four programmes.

What voltage does the BEMER work with?

The BEMER works with 12 volt direct current. This current is modulated via the mains connection (230

volt, alternating current) or generated by a battery.

What is the structure of the coil mat?

Inside the coil mat, there are 6 flat coils. When electric current is sent through these coils, a magnetic

field develops vertically to the flow direction of the electric current (see electromagnetism). In the case

of the BEMER, it is a pulsing field (see BEMER pulse). The average strength of the field (flow density)

ranges from 3.5 to 35 μT (microtesla), depending on the chosen speed on the control device. The

purpose of the coil mat is to trigger effects in the largest possible number of blood vessels. Most blood

vessels are located in the skin. Therefore, it does not require deep penetration into the body to generate effects, and already low intensities (below the one of the earth magnetic field) achieve optimal

results.

How is the coil pillow different from the coil mat?

In the coil pillow, there is a larger flat coil. Therefore, the intensity ranges, with the same speeds on the control device, from 10 to 100 μT (microtesla). This becomes necessary, when the user wants to

achieve certain flow densities deep inside the body, as the strength of a magnetic field decreases

rapidly with increasing distance (see also intensive applicator). With the reduction cable, the same

intensities can be achieved as with the coil mat (see there). The pillow has the advantage that it can

be easily carried along on trips.

What is special about the intensive applicator?

In the intensive applicator, there is a flat coil, which also achieves intensities between 10 and 100 μT

(microtesla). It works like the pillow, but mainly locally into the depth (see also coil pillow).

Why should I use a reduction cable, if I am travelling and want to use the basic application with the coil pillow?

In order to trigger the circulation-increasing effects of the coil mat, only a shallow penetration into the

body (skin-deep) and only low intensities are required. The reduction cable reduces the current, and

with that, the coil pillow generates the same flow densities as the mat.

What does MFA stand for and what is it?

MFA stand for multi function applicator. This is a combination of three coils of the same type as in the

intensive applicator, which can be wrapped around a joint, placed flat on the back, etc., which means

that they are suitable for multi-functional application. The MFA is particularly useful for the application

in a doctor’s practice or in the physioapplication, as it brings faster results. It can run on a rechargeable battery and so, independently from the mains supply. The application is the same as with the intensive applicator or the coil pillow.
